This was what my initial thought was. Was it a hotel or a motel? It would be impossible for a dog to "accidentally" get out of a hotel, but a motel is a different story.

I fear this also, which is why I would rather stay in a hotel, but if they collect the fee, they should alert the housekeeping staff! Did you put a do not disturb sign on your knob? I always to that and also tell the front desk to double make sure that housekeeping doesn't go in.
