Sometimes I find it helps to wrap the topknot in paper before addind a bow.
Another way, if the hair is long and thick, put 2 topknots on top of the head, not by the ears,you will be dividing the topnot in 2, and then put the bow around the 2. Is this making any sense? So much easier to show than tell.
