I do groom my own Yorkies. When I get a foster that is extremely matted, or afraid of being groomed, I get them professionally done the first time. I ease them into the daily grooming routine. I do use good Madan brushes and combs. My scissors are Fiskers. The clippers I use has many attachments and are professional dog grooming clipper set, purchased in 1998 at a dog show.
