FOUR MONTHS! I am so very sorry. No matter HOW long you have them, you love them.
Who did you buy the puppy from? You really need to let YT know if she won't work with you. And if she is a really good and reputable breeder, that cared about her puppies, she would understand how you did what you did. You were grieving! Maybe somebody on the forum, and there are TONS of us, they will know something about her.
Call her and talk to her. At the LEAST, she should offer you another puppy if you pay the other $500 or let you not pay the rest. I would DEFINATELY check her out online and on YT to be sure you are dealing with a reputable person before even thinking of taking another puppy from her. DISHONEST people don't get by with much here on YT.
