It's amazing how fast and far a scared little dog can run. It could be that the owner will place an ad in the newspapers in the coming days. It does take a few days to get an ad in the paper. Check with other vets to see if they know of a missing York. Check with several different shelters. Most people would report a missing dog to a shelter and not to a rescue. Pet stores and groomers are places that an owner may post a flyer about their missing pet. Any where that they allow a bulletin board may have a missing dog flyer. Local radio stations often do lost and found pet announcements. It could take time for the owner to get around to doing all the things that need to be done to find their dog.

No one expects to lose their dog while out for a walk. What a shame the dog did not have an ID tag and a chip. You might also take the dog to be scanned at the shelter. Some vets cannot detect all chips. Using a different scanner could possibly detect a chip.
