When I rescued Charlee, I had her owner surrendered papers including her CKC papers so I was able to call the CKC and have her listed as now living with me. Because she came through rescue and not directly to me from her owner apparently I can't be listed as her new "owner"...however; she is tagged to me and my address if she ever turns up after being lost...Which reminds me, I'm moving and better add them (CKC) to my list of "change of address" information!
With the CKC here in Canada, all CKC breeders, automatically register their litters when born, and we are required once the pups are sold, to send in the change of ownership paperwork to the CKC, which of course registers the pup to the new owner. The new owner will get the official pedigree paperwork from the CKC after about 4-6wks. Also most of us use the CKC microchip program as well.
The new owner unlike in the States has no paperwork to send in.
