I know i might get step on my head for this but, I learn with a couple I met that it matters, a former nanny took their silky (not mine) they adopted from me years after ,this was years ago when we did not have the microchip, and she said that that was her dog, they took her to court, and because they had registered the dog ,proof of ownership was the registration papers, I don't remember what kind of lesser registry it was but it help the couple claim their puppy back, so even if not AKC, my take is that registration with any registry can proof ownership, same with the microchip registration. if you don't show still important to have proof that that dog is YOURS... just my take on it..I had never thought about registrations on that note but now I do...is proof that you OWN that dog.. specially now that dognappings are on the rise.. think about it it makes sense, with microchip and registration papers is NO doubt that , the dog is YOURS..
hugs,
