Default Hge - help for stormy and all of our other little babies

My little baby, Itsie, who is only one pound has just been diagnosed with HGE. She is now in the hospital (2nd day) getting treated. I am just now starting to research HGE and found all the posts very helpful. Have lots to catch up on.

This was truly a nightmare and very, very, scary. I have 7 Yorkies and was really concerned about it being contagious but the doctor assured me that it is not. What also concerned me was my husband who is very, very ill (had liver and kidney transplant - no immune system and many other serious health issues).

This came on so fast and furious - I was scared to death. I woke up to find pools of blood all over my bedroom, living room, and in my bed. (And these pools were not little!! And it was all blood!) There were trails of blood all over the place. She is my husband's dog and does not leave his side ever!!!!! But when she is sick or something is wrong, she always comes to me for help - as they all do - which amazes me. I knew immediately it was her and not any of the others because she came to me immediately to let me know!

Anyway, after trying to clean everything up including Itsie (she had blood all over the her back end, legs, etc.), I held her and rocked her and had her in a blanket on my lap trying to settle us both down. Next thing I know, I felt my something warm on my pajamas - I was horrified as I, too, was full of blood. It was just pouring out of her!

A couple of hours had gone by with little breaks in between. But when it started pouring out of her, through the blanket, on to me - that was it for me!! She had been very alert throughout most of it but went downhill very, very fast.

I immediately took her to an emergency hospital that my daughter works at. By that time, she was crying and screaming. (And I felt like doing the same). Thank god I got her as fast as I did as she was very dehydrated, her sugar dropped to 40 and she had lost a lot of blood. It is day two and she is just now coming around. This has had to be the worst experience I have ever had with all of my babies - the blood alone scares you to death!!! And, like I said, I wasted no time and took her right away - within a couple of hours - and she was still in very bad shape.
