I had bred her 5 years ago. My mom has one of the pups and so does my sister. Hershey is used to being around them, but I'm not sure how she would be with a new puppy? I have a close family and we get together often - so it would affect the other dogs as well.
Is it wise to bring a puppy into the mix? Hershey is 7 1/2 pounds. I'm thinking of getting a 4-5 pound male. Would that be a problem? I want another one so bad but my fear is she will get jealous and won't accept the pup into our home. What do you all think? |
Hi My husband & I have an 11yr old Dachie called Lucy who has a very soft & gentle nature & would never harm the baby.
I lost my older yorkie age 11yrs to renal failure/heart failure in May this year. Her loss was so awful that we decided to get a new baby and did so end of Sep. Lucy at first wasn't happy & ignored the new pup who was delighted to see Lucy. It took about 2 & 1/2 wks for her to come around. We have only had our pup for a month and this past week Lucy seems to have a new lease on life. They actually run around chasing each other or Lucy has the upper hand and gently bites her & nudges her with her nose but you can see she is enjoying the fun. But then she has had enough of her ears being bitten and tugged and jumped on & she looks to us to pick her up. We do watch out to see she has the baby in short doses & does get a break from her..with her being so much older it isn't fair to leave to a 'Tiny Flea' jumping & pulling her. Lucy, also however expects the same treatment for herself including all the extra meals the puppy gets she wants. So we give her little bits of the same food or a treat. And have to adjust her own diet so she doesn't become overweight. We also make sure that Lucy gets the first Hello and a pat & second the baby..this works and the two dogs are very happy together. was going to post some photo's of them but battling with size in attachment
