First of all welcome and congrats on your new baby Yorkie. Try and keep the hair trimmed off the ears and this should help. My Daisy had always had floppy ears and I was OK with it. Couple weeks ago I came across a website that showed a very easy way to tape ears. Your welcome to read the thread below:

I was OK with her having floppy ears but I at least wanted to try it once. Try not to focus on the negative things your girlfriend mentioned. Both of mine came from very good stock but ears sometimes have a mind of there own.
