Just get the tweezers as close to the skin as you can and pull it. The longer you leave it in the higher a risk for him contracting lyme or another tick illness. I would wipe the area with alcohol after you pull it. I find with tweezers you can pull there hair but with this tool you don't and it doesn't seem to hurt them at all. I have two and bought one for my mom too.
