I'm currently feeding Canine Caviar Open Sky (duck) for dinner only & it has a sodium content of .23% max. Wild Ocean has .46% & Buffalo has only .2% (from what I remember, but can't find it on their site). I tried emailing them but it wouldn't go through, it says: Your message was flagged as spam. Please turn on javascript and resubmit. My javascript is on & current, don't know why it's not going through?
Can someone please email them for me & post their response here? I can call, but I understand better when it's in writing, esp if it has #'s in it.
2 questions:
1. Why is there such a big difference in the sodium content? Open Sky .23%, Wild Ocean .46% & Buffalo .2%.
2. What is the appropriate amount of sodium for 5-7# dogs? http://mycaninecaviar.com/contact/generalcontact/ |
Actually, that's not a big difference, .2% is basically the same as .23%, if you were to round .23% down to the nearest tenth if would be .2%. The Wild Ocean has double those amounts, but that's doesn't sound bad, some ocean fish have more salt naturally. Unless your dog is on a salt restricted diet, I wouldn't worry about it. This is why I don't feed mine any human processed foods though, way too much salt.
According to the link that My Oscar posted,
How Much Sodium Do Pets Need?
The Association of American Feed Control Officials recommend that dry dog foods contain at least 0.3% and dry cat foods contain at least 0.2% sodium for both maintenance and to support normal growth and development. These are minimum recommended levels.
