I do not speak for all rescue but I can tell you the one where I volunteer charges $275.00 for adoption, with that you get the following:

1. UTD on shots
2. Heartworm tested (and treated if found positive)
3. Spay or Neuter
4. Guarantee that at the time of adoption the dog is healthy or being treated for health issues (if being treated you are sent home with meds)
5. The dogs complete medical history from the time it steps foot into our rescue to the time you sign the adoption papers.

The bonus is you are getting a well loved, socialized dog who spend everyday around people who love them, feed them and want nothing but the best for them. Oh and one less homeless dog on the streets.



Now if you were to buy a dog from another source the first three items on my list would cost you at least $275.00 and items 4 and 5 depends on whom you buy from.
