Several years ago when I had a nearly 100 pound golden retriever, the vet told me to give him glucosamine and said it didn't matter if it was people glucosamine, since the veterinary version usually cost much more. Back then she said to give him 1000mg per day. One small dog Dasuquin tab contains 600 mg. I cut it in half, so Columbo takes 300mg per day. He only weighs 8.5, so I guess he really could take a quarter tab. He's been on the half tab for so long, I'll probably stick with that because he's recently had knee surgery and I don't want to take the chance now of cutting back the benefits as he starts to age.
