I am so confused on why Taycie does this so we are headed to the vet in a few hours to hopefully get some answers.
This has happened off and on for the last few weeks and last night was the worst.. I almost headed to the E.R vet last night.
Here is the low down and I will try to explain it the best I can. This happens when she is sleeping. She will be all snuggled in.. in puppy dream land.. (completly dead asleep) and then out of the BLUE she will jump up like she just got stung by a bee. She will run around with her tail between her legs and act like she either got pinched or stung.. I still am lost why she does this... Her stomach will become hard like a rock and I know she hurts She can't seem to get comfortable and she will do this entire seniero repeatedly..
Last night I gave her a pepcid and some Baby Mylicon gas drops and about 3am I decided we would be ok to wait until morning.
Anyway...Taycie has quite the history with her senstive stomach. She is on Tylan powder along with RX food and this has really done wonders for her. However on recent blood panels her bloodwork has come back with ever so slightly elevated liver enzymes.. It is very slight.. Seriously like a 5 points higher then normal. My vet is very aware of this..and we decided to see what her panel will pull in a few months after her last exam. So the plan is to go back next month and re -run blood work and see where numbers are sitting and discuss further options.
As far as her general health these last few months she has been great. Normal BM's. Eats drinks.. Her poop was completley normal this morning.. No vomiting nothing.. She ate great this morning as well.
So I am stumped! And rather then have another crazy night like last night I am taking her in. To me, she seems like it could be gas pains however she is not stinky in the slightest..
So Basically I have no idea what is going on. If she was having crazy BMs or vomiting I would have ran to the vet last night in a heartbeat but she is functioning completely normal that way.
Any thoughts appreciated so I have something maybe I can discuss with my vet today in further detail..
Thanks! |
Pretty much describes what Tibbe would do during the last week of May and the entire month of June, in addition to having the hard stomach, the occas. mucous-y stool & standing about with his head hanging down, occas. fairly loud bowel sounds one could hear with the natural ear, very occas. reverse sneezing. But the sudden jumping up and running around like he was scared or hurting, ears back, tail clamped down, hard belly(w/o the passing of gas and no gas smell) looking at me with sad eyes all fits. He was on Pepcid, the Mylicon drops, Hill's Gastro I/D and after 6-7 weeks, it finally stopped it. His lipase washigh but CPL snap and all other tests done twice were WNL. Vet finally said the jerking-awake episodes were intestinal spasm from areas that were irritated in the intestine/colon and until he was on the nice, plain-Jane food for a long enough time with nothing else to irritate his gut, he would likely do it. I was pretty frantic but I am pretty sure it was
Ellie May/Crystal who finally told me gut problems could take a good while to settle down, tended to recur at times in certain dogs and her words kind of calmed me down. I have similar symptoms at times myself so I finally came to see that dogs can be a lot like us with their GI issues. But while he had the spasms, he wasn't digesting his food well and he had the reverse sneezing the vet said from gastric juices making their way into the lower esophagus from the intestinal irritation/spasm irritating the esophagus and even nauseating him at times - which is why he often had little appetite some days and stood around still with his head hanging down. It took forever for him to get better but finally he stopped jerking awake & running around in that scared-acting or painful-seeming attitude. I have still kept him on the Hill Gastrointestinal I/D all summer and continuing to the present just out of fear of starting to change him over but will be segueing him into a good diet very soon. Maybe Taycie has a bit of IBS that causes her some gastric spasm and pain. I hope you can find some answers for her as little Tibbe finally got. Keep us posted.
