An allergic reaction will never happen the first time a body receives a dose of the antigen. It is the second or even third dose that brings on the reaction, after the body has already set up a defense against the substance.
While an allergic reaction can happen in the body when exposed to about any substance and at any time there are some substances that are more prone to elicit a reaction.
If you decide to have these vaccines again you might want to consider staying at the vet's office for at least 45 minutes after they are given just to make sure there is not another reaction. |
This makes a lot of sense as this is probably Hot Rod's 3rd or 4th round of the lyme vaccine. I know I didn't do it the first year since it wasn't guaranteed for to cover all strains and I didn't want to put a less than 4lb dog thru all of the vaccines if not necessary.
