I haven't had a flea problem in many years, but back when I had my ferrets, we had a battle. I went to stay in a hotel one night and I "bombed" the house. That worked for a few days (for real). What really worked fast and permanent was actually doing the drops on the ferrets (like frontline or advantage). Get the drops that kill the adults, sterilize them, AND kill eggs. Within 2 to 3 days, fleas are gone. It was like magic.

Edit to add: Forgot to say to also vacuum the house really well after you do the drops and wash all your bedding (people and pup's).
