Be patient and keep working with him. Eventually, he will get it but it takes time and patience and there will be some breaththrough whining, barking occas. even when they learn. Just disagree with it and lead them from the door area when they do. But big-barker Tibbe eventually learned to quieten on command so it can be done. Course I like him barking and raising Cain when someone's at the door so that person knows there is a good alert dog in here. I don't quieten Tibbe until I start to open the door and he's in his "door spot", where he's been trained to go when I approach the door. And he messes up sometimes - comes running toward the door once in a while - and I just stop the greeting with an apology and lead him back, watch him until he's down and go back, holding his eyes until I re-open it. He is awfully good but not perfect - just almost.
