Default fighing...

When Kissi was born, Rose was a year older and she did not take well at all to the new addition to the family. She would nip, snap and growl at Kissi when she tried approaching Rose to play. Eventually, they sorted things out and became best buddies. It just takes some time and careful observation so the puppy doesn't get hurt.

One thing you mentioned, your older dog is sleeping with you, but the puppy is downstairs. I wondered if this might add to your older dog's perception of being territorial or queen of the castle. Is there any way the puppy could sleep upstairs next to the bed in her crate? Or could she come upstairs, after going potty, and stay on the bed with you and your other dog for a while?

I don't know if this would help or not, but just an idea.
