Max was going to be a Winston, Winnie, but my father renamed him because of his intensity. Then the name was going to be "Maximus Decimus Meridius" for Russel Crowe's Gladiator. Our Italian neighbor pronounced it Maximo, and it stuck and we combined it with his breeder's given name.
Teddy is named after Teddy Roosevelt because he loves the outdoors and has a zest for life.
