Some Yorkies can produce stones rather quickly. Did the vet say what kind of stones they were?

You can teach her outside only by giving her a treat and overly praising her when she does it right, outside. Eventually she'll understand. Also, tell her 'Go Potty' and she'll learn the command while she's doing the action.
