Ulcerative colitis I have a fourteen year old Yorkshire terrier who has been suffering from ulcerative colitis for about two years now. He has been to the vet and had a stomach scan which showed nothing. He suffers from bleeding when going to the toilet and this is sometimes worse than other times. He aggravates the condition by eating tissues that he finds on the road so I have to put a muzzle on him but not all the time as then when off the lead he cannot protect himself.
I would be interested to know if anyone else has had a Yorkshire Terrier with this condition and whether I could give him a different diet that might help. I have tried out several of the dry hypoallergenic foods that one can buy in the UK. He now has a Burns food that is hypoallergenic but gets tired of it (having this food alone does not cure the condition) so I add some good quality dog meat which contains no additives. The condition is apparently aggravated by stress so he gets plenty of exercise.
I have also added a daily spoonful of good quality plain yogurt to his food this does improve his condition.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you. |
