Often he would be given heavy duty meds without any real diagnosis. I now for one do observe the dog for a while and mostly he recovers with no vet treatment and no drugs with side effects.
We with time learn to differentiate between a simple minor tummy upset and a potentially serious problem, but when the pet is behaving normally otherwise, we do not have to rush to the vet and put our pet through that trauma.
If the advice given here is to always take to the vet for anything, why would anyone need to post here?
I know my views will probably result in angry comments, but dogs do have minor upsets which are not serious and sometimes new dog moms have not had enough experience to know that. We can help there.
But again, if in doubt see a vet if you are concerned. |
If I went to the vet every time one of my guys threw up I may as well live at the vet's office

I have taken them a few times in the past, but now I know what to look for and I can wait..but like you said it took experience to be able to do so.
I still think several times a day for two or more days is serious, if nothing more then to worry about the dehydration. My vet has given meds to stop the nauseas and that helps too, but sometimes it is just "lets wait and see" or "lets do test-- that prove nothing" It is a hard call. I would rather error on the side of taking to the vet TOO often then to wait until the pup is TOO sick to help.. sigh
I guess it is like children, my first child went to the doc at the drop of a hat, my second I was more experienced. I still took her to the doctor when I was unsure
