As I have often said: there is no really public place that educates the public about purebred dogs. You don't learn it in school for sure. The major place people see purebred dogs advertised are pet stores and classified ads....oh, and now the internet. Of course the public thinks that these are legit since most advertise as AKC or some bundle of letters that look nice. The BYBs always say they have "years of experience." The only place the general public ever sees a show dog is in the once a year Madison Square Garden event and few even watch that. People who do watch it never imagine purchasing such a dog and know nothing of the show world. It is no wonder that so many people get involved in what they see that is out front in the public eye. The world of show/breeders are a group of people that are not really out there in the public eye. You find them at shows and in breed publications and the kind of publications that give the show info and stats. Unless a person knows a reputable breeder, or knows of one, they have to practically be an investigative reporter to find out how to buy a purebred puppy.
