I think they can show appreciation and I think they also understand good manners. People laugh at me but whenever either Sophie Kate or Avery do as they are told I always say "Thank you". I also never use no but instead add a Ma'am or Sir".
Avery were make a little purring meow sound when I feed him, I like to think he is thanking me.
