Exactly! One of my kitties got out recently - my cats are never allowed inside either, but he managed to dart under feet and get out before he could be grabbed. As luck would have it, his collar had broken the night before and I hadn't had a chance to go replace it - it's unlikely inwoukd have ever gotten him back without a chip, he was gone almost 2 weeks before a neighbor found him and took him to the vet who found the chip!
