We got one of these
Amazon.com: Iris CI-604 Indoor/Outdoor Plastic... to keep Karlie in. It is tall enough that I think it will still be useful even after she is grown. Our 3 year old yorkie is 5.5 lbs and she can't get out of it. However, in my experience, puppies are great escape artists, so I will be putting a cover over the top of this pen while I'm gone to work...better safe than sorry!
I also really like this pen:
Amazon.com: Pet Gear Home 'N Go Pet Pen for cats... although it is more expensive. I was lucky enough to find one used, so I didn't have to pay as much. It is taller but not as big around and is very sturdy.
A much less expensive version is this one:
Amazon.com: Zebra Pet Tent Exercise Pen Playpen... which I use for our 3 year old now. I'm not sure about using it for a puppy because I think a chewing puppy would eventually be able to tear a hole through it. But once they are past the chewing stage, it works great and is super easy to transport.
Also, for me, I don't mind paying a little more for a good pen because I continue to use them even after the puppy is an adult. I feel more comfortable if I leave my Yorkies confined while I'm gone. I'm just a worry wart and don't entirely trust that they won't get into trouble or hurt themselves!
