Can't say I agree with your vet. Most dew claws are loosely attached and can get caught on carpeting or things outside. It is a much easier procedure when they are newborns of course. Gracie was a year old when her's was removed during her spay surgery. I must say she licked at that more than her spay incision but I'm glad it was gone. They have no control over the dew claw and it can be a painful injury if they do get caught. She just had one that was not properly removed when she was a baby. It was really just being held there by skin tissue and not much connective tissue.
