I have 2 girls with cottony coats. I keep them in a puppy cut. I use Coat Handlers 5 to 1 shampoo & CC final solution rinse(don't care for that name).
I have found thru the years that a cottony coat stays cleaner than a silk,but instead of growing down it tends to grow outward, kindda like an afro.
I've also notices that dogs with red eyes tend to have a cottony coat & dogs w/green eyes have silky( using flashlight in dark room). Also a silky coat is cool to the touch as opposed to the warmer feel of cottony coat.
