Eevee is just ending a 6 week heat. A week ago I talked to her vet, who said that 6 weeks is the longest a heat can be normally, and he wouldn't be concerned unless it lasted longer than that. Her "peepee" (I don't even know what to call it) is almost completely back down to normal size, but her nipples are still very large.
The vet said that he wouldn't want to spay her during her heat unless he had to because of the increased risk. I've researched it and they bleed more if they have surgery during a heat. The vet also said spaying during heat increased the risk of false pregnancy. I would not spay her during a heat unless I absolutely had to.
She acted pretty much like she couldn't tell she was in heat. She licked her peepee a lot. That was about it. I kept a diaper on her during the bleeding, which lasted less than 2 weeks (don't remember exactly).
Your vet mentioned anemia, are you saying she's been bleeding the whole 5 weeks? That sounds very odd and I would be worried. If she's stopped the bleeding and is just swollen, etc that sounds more normal. If she has stopped bleeding I can't imagine anemia would be an issue though. |
