5 weeks in heat My Yorkie has been in heat for 5 weeks and 1 day. I called the vet last week, but my regular wasn't in and she recommended immediate spay. When I asked why she said due to anemia. I then asked if we could do a blood test to see if that was the case before we opted for the more risky surgery of spaying while in heat. We did that and she was fine. However another week has passed so I took her to my regular vet today and she said 5 weeks is abnormal, but she checked her over good and she seems to be physically fine. She advised we give it another week before we discuss spaying while in heat. By the way, I did have an appt to get her spayed, but she came into heat the week of the appointment. Her mammary glands have also gotten very full in the past couple days and the vet mentioned there is a chance she is going into false pregnancy. So I certainly will get her spayed as soon as it is safe to do so, in the meantime does anyone have experience with such a long heat and/or false pregnancy? |
