For the most part yes but for a dog who will potty and lay in it ... like my pup mill rescue ... crate training is not advisable and is actually harmful.
A dog does not have to stand to poop or pee, large breed dogs from pup mills especially have been noted to potty laying down.
This behavior is NOT absolute in identification of a pup mill dog ir being from a bad breeder, however it is a sign of it for sure.
Ask anyone with real life experience in rehabbing such dogs ...
