Most of the time Lexie is with me everywhere I go, but when I leave her at home, she has the run of the house. Rarely has there been an accident. She just sleeps or watches TV. If she hasn't pooped yet, I keep her in a 30' X 60" pen with her crate & pee pad. That's where she sleeps at night, too. Works great.
Depends on how reliable and active your dog is as to what he needs best.
