I have two kinds of food for my guys, and leave it out 24/7.
They eat Beneful for breakfast (4am), Welness for dinner (4pm), and will eat an interim snack occasionally. I always have lots of treats (Bully/Greenie/Biscuit/other) laying around for them to snack on at their leisure.
I think that the reason neither of mine have a food "obsession" like many dogs do, is because of the 24/7 availability. They never have diarrhea.
