The following happened here in NC several years ago. (2005) A shelter of some kind had been the habit of calling PETA to come (as many do) and get their pets they were unable to sell and PETA would take them to re-home them in Virgina.
Instead the drivers would take a van full of pets, go out of county and then euthanize the pets and throw their bodies in a trash dumpster. I think a police stake out of trash dumpsters located them doing that.
This is not a folklore item, it happened. I heard it several times on my local news. The people stood trial if I am not mistaken and were found guilty..this story should be found on the internet...........sad
(PS this is strictly my opinion, can't change it, so please don't try!)
