I feel your pain! I've been there, covered in the rash (Virginia creeper), and my air conditioner decided to stop working that very hot day.
Bathing in Dawn dish soap in a cold shower cured me. The Dawn strips the oils that make the rash spread. The cold water keeps the rash from becoming inflamed.
Wish you could have talked to me before you tried the other "remedy."
When I was a kid, I could rub poison ivy directly on my skin and nothing happened. My brother is deadly allergic and I used to taunt him this way. I think karma got me back 25 years later.
