That ask-a-nurse is right! Anything like sorbitol, maltitol...or pretty much anything ending in -tol is just nasty on the GI system if you use just a bit too much. Eat them in very small quantities until you see how they affect your body.
Do you use stevia? It's a natural sweetener that does not affect blood sugar (unlike some other cal-free sweetners) and is calorie free.
