Keep in mind that wiggling the toes, moving the toe nails, is uncomfortable for the dog. I don't go too deep in between the toes at the front, but I use the mustache trimmer between the pads on the bottom of the foot.

I hold the paw in one hand and gently squeeze so that the pads spread a bit. Then I trim as much as possible with the mustache trimmer, angling it in between the pads. You don't have to jam the trimmer into the paw -- be gentle and go slow to get a feel for how much pressure is needed.
