She suggested a ultra sound to rule out the serious ones!?!? she also said we could do a exray first. I have been looking up symptoms of liver shunt but thankfully Baci has none. If it is just toxins, I am wondering if the SAMe supplement that the Dr. put her on, will resolve the issue and she will be fine. Has anyone been in this situatuation where elevated levels turn out to be nothing or is it always a liver shunt or mvd...which I don't even know what that is...I am sorry to say
I had Tink xrayed first bc with LS the liver can be smaller then what would be normal for the size dog. Hers was small, so then we went on to do an ultrasound.

Numbers over 100 usually indicate a shunt, under 100 they're more likely to be MVD, which has the same symptoms of a shunt but there is no shunt. Dogs with MVD do well more often with just a low protein diet and no meds. Some may need the meds too.

Some meds like prednisone can affect the Bile Acid Test.

Denamarin is SamE and milk thistle combined. Marin is milk thistle and can be taken with Denosyl. Or you can get the homeopathic type at the health food store, just be sure to get the glycerine based, not the alcohol based milk thistle. All these nutriceuticals help the liver to cleanse itself of toxins and regenerate new liver cells. I use the Denamarin as I find it easier to pill my dog, and it contains both the SamE and the milk thistle.
