I know this is a very hard time for you, but I have some questions if you could answer for me... if you're not up to it, just skip this post...
What foods and treats were you feeding both your dogs?
I had 2 non-Yorkie Seniors pass close together about 3 years ago. That left me with just my Peek A Boo, 12 YO at the time. He became very withdrawn, to the point I became very concerned about his survival. Nothing I did would perk him up, he seemed so depressed and just laid around and slept all the time.
I decided to take him for a walk (mostly carried him), and when we got down the street the neighbor's Yorkies were out in their yard. He lifted his head to look, then let me know he wanted down. He showed so much interest in these dogs, I called DH and told him we were getting another Yorkie asap.
The funny part is he did not care for the first Yorkie we got, Tinkerbell, I think bc she is light blonde colored. She did bother him enough though and the competitiveness kicked in and he started eating so much better.
Then an opportunity came up to get one of the same coloring as him, and we added Sapphire to the mix. He did accept her with much more enthusiasm, they almost look like twins. He tolerates everything she does, he even lets her steal his food and his treats too!
Then we added Infinity, the Biewer, so Tinkerbell would have a playmate.
Tink and Peek are constantly bickering for the lead. They both want to boss the other two, who could really care less who's in charge.
But the important thing is the changes I've seen in Peek A Boo. The best description I can come up with is that he runs around here now like a puppy. He'll be 16 YO in December. He's always been people friendly, but not overly dog friendly, just tolerant, so I was leary getting another dog for him, but it gave him a new lease on life.
I don't know if getting another Yorkie is an option for you, but I felt I had to share my experiences with you. |
