When Mikki had her spay done we had her dew claws removed. My vet did recommend them. However, there was a concern with hers growing into the skin because of how they curled around. He also said that many dogs will get them hung on things and that can lead to problems too.
I will be honest and tell you that I feel the dew claw removal concerned her more than the spay. She never bothered the incision from her spay but continually tried to lick at the dew claw area. Within 24 hours, she was pretty much back to normal. I am sure the vet will give your friends pup some pain meds if she has it done. I know many people don't get them removed. I decided to do it because of vet recommendation. I trust my vet so I decided to go ahead and do it. Is your friend doing this for comestic reasons or is the vet recommending the removal? I really do think she should discuss this with her vet. |
