Hi, Welcome to YT.
SHOULD I GET MY YORKIE FIXED ?
Answer: I have been a stanch advocate of spay and neuter for a very long time. I work with rescued dogs, abandoned dogs and strays. I have seen the results of too many unwanted dogs. I also firmly believe dogs are calmer, less territorial, less aggressive, and can avoid some serious diseases and cancers simply by being spayed or neutered. It is my opinion they are happier and being a pet, than active breeding dogs. Intact dogs are always looking for that next mate and worried about rivals.
The only thing that has changed in my reasoning, is when Yorkies are sterilized. My Vet specializes in breeding, and fertility. She is one of the countries most respected frozen sperm and AI experts pertaining to show dogs. She has given me research data and information that concludes, there are advantages in spaying and neutering AFTER dogs reaches sexual maturity. With most Yorkies sexual maturity is between eight months and one year of age. So my answer is, Yes Spay or Neuter your Yorkie.
