Oh, yeah I had to hand feed Gracie, too. I would have stood on my head if I could have gotten her to eat dog food. I did home cook food for her for several months. I found she ate better if I just boiled her chicken and sweet potatoes and added some other vegetables. She hated grains. White potatoes can cause some problems so I'd try sweet potatoes, they are more nutritious anyway.
I finally got Gracie on a commercial raw diet and she eats that without trouble. It took a lot of study and trial and error before we got it right though.
With your puppy being so below the normal weight he should be I would do what ever is possible to get him eating nutritious food.
