My girl Zhoie had AAI surgery last Dec 1st, which is on the C1 & C2 disc in her spine. She had successful surgery at North Carolina State University, vet school surgeons are highly skilled.

This does sound like it could be a spinal injury. I urge you to contact a vet school for a neuro appointment right away, however, most vet schools require you to be referred by a vet. The way around that is for you to take your Buddy directly to their ER which is open 24 hrs a day. Once your dog has been checked in the ER unit, they will then refer you over to their Neurological unit for a consult and diagnosis.
