I just can't handle the retractable leashes. Hubby uses the retractable one. I didn't know there was an all tape one though, that might be a possibility. I have a 32 year old square leather leash that's worn in just perfectly from my first little boy (Shih Tzu) back in 1980. It's 5 ft and we (Deuce and me) are comfortable with that length. I can control my little boy when I need to just by looping it in front of me. Believe me the leather is finally broken in perfectly. It also has some great old and new memories attached
