Also you need to keep an eye on him. When he starts pacing and sniffing around take him to his pad. Feed him on a schedule so you more or less know when he needs to go. That goes for food and water.
It can be done. People always say Yorkies are hard to potty train and I don't agree. I have had to retrain many fosters and they all did well, even one who had bladder problems. You just have to keep a watchful eye.
ETA if he is sleeping in your bed, keep a bell on him. When he starts to wake up and get restless the bell will wake you up and then you take him to his pad. Don't just let him on the floor where he can go wherever he pleases.
