I really thought that vets would automatically scan dogs to check when someone brings in a dog saying they want it checked due to it being a stray they found. I have seen it recommended here,at annual exam time, making a scan of the microchip part of the exam.
If you happen to know who the vet was that the lady took him to,you might give them a call and remind them how important it is to scan all dogs just to make sure. It doesnt do any of us any good to chip our animals if vets,rescues and the pound aren't gonna scan for a chip. Maybe as time goes by and more people chip their animals it will become more of a habit for them to be scanned.
