I paid almost $500 for Buddha's neutering and I took him to a veterinary dental specialist for the teeth removel becasue the vet said he had too mny retained to take them out during the neuter and that procedure was $1200.

I didn't mind paying either time because I knew my baby was getting the very best care. I don't think surgery is a place to try and get discounts or use low cost "clinics" because then they have to "cut corners" (like not doing the IV or not having a separate person monitor the aneshtesia, etc) and it makes the procedure possibly even more risky.

No one wants to get taken to the cleaners so I would get estimates from 2 or 3 vets, tour the facilities, ask for a description of how the process goes in their office, and choose the one you feel is going to give your baby the best care regardless of the cost. This is what I did.

Good luck!
