i have heard of dogs getting hairballs before.
you could try a dab of butter, maybe 1/4 tsp.
put it on your finger and let him lick it off.
may grease his intestinal tract and get rid of the hairball.

also the coughing may not be caused by a hairball.
yorkies cough for other reasons.
if the coughing persists a vet check would be a good idea
