I have both a medium Pet Gear and a medium Snoozer for ZoE.
The Pet Gear seat form is made from polystyrene and the sides are firm. ZoE likes this when riding around town, because she stands in her seat and puts her front paws on the side and looks out the window. I know some don't feel the sewn-in strap is as secure (and I did shorten mine because it was too long), but we don't use it, as we also have a strap that buckles into the actual seat belt, so she is super secure AND she can see out the windows well.
The Snoozer seat form is made from foam....like your couch/sofa cushions...so it is definately softer (including the sides). I had the medium PetGear & so bought the medium Snoozer thinking they'd be the same, but the Snoozer is actually ALOT bigger and ZoE can stretch out and lay down in it just like its a bed.
I find the Pet Gear seat harder to buckle in, but believe how it buckles in makes it very secure, even though I don't enjoy the hassle of moving it from vehicle to vehicle, so it'll stay put in my Stang. I also like that the Pet Gear coordinates nicely with my car interior and isn't a cutesie looking seat.
The Snoozer is very easy to buckle in and it would be no problem moving it between vehicles if you plan in using it in more than one.
